In the final episode of the season, Tunnel at the End of the Light, the Andromeda is hosting a signing party for the new Commonwealth Charter. As might be expected, things do not go well. The crew discovers a Nietzschean disguised as a human among the delegates, but he turns out to be the least of their worries. Soon, an unknown assailant is offing the Andromeda’s guests, one that seems to come and go at will, unseen by ships sensors, and usually, by the crews eyes as well. After a time, they do manage to bring the creatures into the light, and manage to defeat the in combat aboard the ship. It should be noted here that the alien creatures bare a striking resemblance to those from the Predator movies and games, right down to the camouflage, and it’s easy to mistake this episode as a cheap rip off. However, we soon find out that these aliens are not here collecting trophies. They have something far more nefarious in mind, and are just the first few members of a massive invasion fleet coming through a dimensional tunnel - massive to the tune of over 10,000 ships near the end of the battle. It seems hopeless, but the crew has a plan, and more importantly, a bomb (launched from the Maru), which they use to close the tunnel. However, when the Maru returns, Beka and Tyr are not on board. Certainly, with the new alien threat and the mission crewmembers, viewers have a lot to look forward to in Season 3. Of course, fans who have followed the show already know what happens. Those of you who have not watched it, however, would do well to pick up these collections on DVD. Andromeda is a fun show, and it keeps getting better. Episode 2:19 - Belly of the Beast Dylan orders Rommie to look for the creature, much to her disbelief. However, the Andromeda soon does find Cetus, and they attack it, and are promptly swallowed by the enormous beast. As Dylan and Trance race back to slowly digesting Andromeda, Harper is trying desperately to gain manual control of the ship. From inside, a plan is formed to get the ship free, while outside, Dylan has come up with a plan of his own. Dylan’s plan is a bit more on the “one way trip” side of things than is comfortable, and the idea worked up by those on the Andromeda is not a cakewalk, either, but between the two of them, they manage to get the ship to safety and save a world, and are none the worse for wear. Episode 2:20 - The Knight, Death, and the Devil While Beka and Harper try and convince a new world to join the reformed Commonwealth, Dylan, Tyr, and Rommie discover The Clarion’s Call, a former High Guard troopship. The ship is being used as a gambling casino, and its avatar, Ryan (played by Michael Hurst, who also costarred as Eolas with Kevin Sorbo on Hercules) is acting as host. Ryan tells of about 50 other captured ships, being held near a planet called Tartarus. The crew races to the ships, fearing that the Nietzscheans, so far unable to crack the programming of the ships AIs, may already be on their way to destroy them. Once there, Dylan faces an unexpected problem- some of the AIs are resistant to rejoining the new Commonwealth. After having had 300 years to think about it, they are less that willing to be slaves for war, and at first are unwilling to help Dylan to save themselves. But after Dylan assures them that the Commonwealth wants them as partners, rather than slaves, and an attack by Nietzschean forces, the ships join up, and narrowly escape, living to serve the Commonwealth once again. Episode 2:21 - Immaculate Perception After an attack upon the Nietzscheans by a group known as the Genites, Tyr charges off to help, as his wife is among his people who were attacked. Upon arriving, Tyr is stunned to learn he has a son- a son who, if rumors are true, is the genetic reincarnation of Drago Museveni, the first Nietzschean and coming Messiah. Tyr also learns that his child has been taken, and is being “protected” by the leader of the Orca Clan. It’s a good story, full of sadness, but Dylan knows Tyr all too well. Dylan questions whether the story is true. Tyr assures him it is, but as always, Tyr plays the truth close to his vest- and to his own ends. Episode 2:22 - Tunnel at the End of the Light As Dylan delivers a speech to delegates aboard Andromeda to ratify the Commonwealth Charter, an explosion rips through the ship. Soon after, Rommie informs Dylan that her AI core has been sabotaged, and is breaking down. Trance and Rommie soon discover a Nietzschean disguised as human on the ship. When they confront him a fight ensues, and as the man escapes, an arm seems to jut out of a wall and whisk the man away. At first they think he was helped to escape, but soon they realize the truth- the alien creature is just of many aboard Andromeda, seemingly intent on killing all aboard. A bomb is rigged to close the tunnel, and Tyr and Beka take it out on the Maru. Everything seems to work perfectly, but when the Maru returns to the Andromeda, they find the ship on autopilot- there is a tear in the hull of the Maru, and Beka and Tyr are gone. -Ed-
